Ricky Martin, Delta Goodrem
30 April 2015
Ricky Martin knows exactly what you want out of one of his concerts: the hits, the dance routines, the dramatic stage and the famous Bon Bon shaking.
That is exactly what you get from the One World tour – plus a duet with one of Australia’s national treasures.
In a match made in reality TV heaven, fellow Voice coach Delta Goodrem is the opening act for the national tour. Overexcited fans had filled the Allphones arena for the superstar double-bill, each declaring their loyalty to Team Delta, or Team Ricky.
Walking onstage barefoot, Delta Goodrem altered the lyrics to ‘Sitting On Top of the World’ to welcome her Sydney audience. Accompanied by guitar and drums, Goodrem spent her time standing centre stage or behind a white piano.
Playing crowd-pleasing hits, and giving her fans a preview of her upcoming album, Delta’s ever-flawless voice belted her way though a reimagined ‘Innocent Eyes’, and a stripped back version of ‘Born To Try’.
From the moment Ricky Martin steps onstage, you are having as much fun as a backing dancer in one of his music videos. Dazzled by the intense choreography and geometric patterns in the background – everyone onstage gives their all for Martin’s electric, high-octane, one-night festival.
From dance hits to intimate ballads, Martin’s repertoire included ‘She Bangs’ and ‘Shake your Bon Bon’ supported by an impressive backing band.
Arriving onstage on the bonnet of a Mustang for ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ was undoubtedly the highlight.
The screams were loud enough to make you believe his 1999 hit is still number 1.
Voice alumni Jackson Thomas was invited onstage as a surprise guest performance, followed by a stunning duet between Martin and Goodrem.
I think I know which team I will be picking for the upcoming season of The Voice.
